WHO ARE
BUDDHA BIKES?

Buddha Bikes is first and foremost a bike shop, with bikes made from recycled materials, refurbished second-hand bikes, and people with fanatic love for bikes.

The belief in a second chance is something we have transferred to people. We create courses for vulnerable youths in collaboration with the Askov Foundation. The able and willing are given an apprenticeship with union-approved pay and we educate them as bicycle mechanics. We are proud of pulling these good individuals out of the system and make them just as cyclo file, fanatic and geeky about the two-wheeled as we are ourselves!

The need for sustainable thinking

The need for sustainable thinking

Danes purchase on average a total amount of 1370 bicycles a day! A bicycle in Europe costs 223 kgs of CO2 to produce. We can do something about this consumption! That is why we refurbish and build second-hand bikes all day long - and sell them to all of you, who would also like to put an end to the waste!

Where do we recover our bikes from?

Where do we recover our bikes from?

We get our old bikes from the police. When a bike is left at a train station or in a backyard it is considered lost property. Some are sold at police auctions but most require 3-4 hours of technical labor before they are sellable. Therefore, most lost-property bikes are thrown away. Now we take care of the old steel and give it new life!

Registred socio-economic business

Buddha Bikes is a so-called “RSV” - a registered socio-economic business. That means that we have been approved as such at the State Social Agency and Business Agency. That means that we have a social purpose, are independent of public funds, we are inclusive, responsible and that profits will be reinvested in the company. Read more on socialvirksomhed.dk

We reject the use-and-throw-away culture

We reuse bicycle parts collected from all over Copenhagen. The current emphasis on just buying new items when the old breaks is detrimental to our environment.
